One Good Movie - Midwest Roses

A weekly newsletter for movie lovers with taste but not much time.

Hey friend,One of my favorite actors and WHS Class of '97 graduate Neil Arsenty filmed with Jeff Daniels this week.

Two terrific Midwest actors in the same scene!

Can't wait to see it.

Daniels is one of the great American actors.

This week's movie:

It's a human love story and a story about the love of movies, but never treacle.

Mia Farrow falls in love with a movie character who comes off the screen into the real world. Daniels is the screen character Tom Baxter and the real-world actor who plays him.

Gordon Willis shot it.

The 1980s are known to be a low point for American cinema.

This movie is the exception.

82 minutes.

Epilogue

This photo was stolen from Mr. Arsenty's social media account without his express permission.

Midwest Theatre

Daniels founded the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Chelsea, Michigan. His hometown.

Also a musician, Daniels performed in my hometown in 2017 at the Woodstock Opera House.

Killer Jeff

I recommend Scott Frank's Western mini-series Godless on Netflix with Daniels as the heavy. It was originally conceived as a feature film.

Jasper "Buddy" Noone

Daniels plays a guy named Jasper "Buddy" Noone in Clint Eastwood's Blood Work. He wrote a song about it.

I wish they did more films together.
