One Good Movie - Fraternal Order

A weekly newsletter for movie lovers with taste but not much time.

Hi friend,

It’s happened.

I’m recommending a movie that’s categorized as a TV series.

But I disagree.

It’s a documentary broken into three parts.

Spanning decades, the movie delves into the shameless scam of charity telemarketing.

Co-director Sam Lipman-Stern worked as a telemarketer starting at age 14. He began capturing footage of absurd office antics, and he builds on his early recordings to support a larger narrative of unapologetic fraud.

It’s also full of hilarious human characters.

Namely, Pat Pespas, a legendary caller, heroin addict, and amateur interviewer.

Produced by the Safdie Brothers and Danny McBride, the film is equal parts an expose and human comedy.

You can find it on HBO.
