Return of the One Good Movie

Dear Bright Shining Reader,

Wesley Morris recently wrote that there are no new movie stars

He's right.

Tarantino shared similar feelings in regard to the Marvelization of cinema.

Tom Cruise is a movie star. Denzel. Bullock. DiCaprio. Maybe Robbie?

My favorite star is Jamie Foxx. Not just movies. Foxx is a sensational talent. He can do comedy, sing, act, and ride-a-motherfucking horse

Most of his movies post-Django are average at best, but he's even terrific in movies I dislike.

One actor who's not a star, but always feels on the precipice is Michael Fassbender.

His turn in Inglourious Basterds is star-making. He took on the requisite comic book part in X-Men: First Class. He's always magnetic.

Fassbender hasn't had a major part in five years. He returns in 2023 with several films.

To prep for the rise of Fassbender, let's watch a picture you may have missed:

An 84-minute revisionist western directed by John Maclean (yes, that Maclean).

Fassbender plays a bounty hunter.

Watch it and tell me what you think.

p.s. Who's your favorite movie star?

Epilogue

I'm on vacation, but I did watch Bullet Train on the plane. Mostly awful. A waste of all the exceptional below-the-line talent. Only moderately tolerable thanks to Pitt and a few funny cameos by Michael Shannon and Magic Mike.

The Killer

My most anticipated Fassbender film is The Killer.

David Fincher directs.

Fassbender plays a hitman.

You don't need any more info.
